The CFPA–IFPS Fluid Power Career Pathway Program is a structured workforce development initiative designed to strengthen technical competency, improve employee retention, and establish industry-recognized standards across the Canadian fluid power sector.
Developed in collaboration with the Canadian Fluid Power Association (CFPA) Workforce Development Committee, this program provides a progressive training and certification pathway that enables individuals to advance from foundational knowledge to professional-level certification with approximately one to two years.
The program addresses critical workforce challenges facing the fluid power industry:
By leveraging the International Fluid Power Society's (IFPS) established training and certification framework, CFPA members gain access to a scalable, flexible, and respected professional development system.
The Career Pathway consists of three progressive tracks. Depending on their education, experience, and knowledge of fluid power, some individuals may skip tracks and proceed directly to specialist certification. Certifications are also available for candidates in maintenance and repair roles, such as Mechanic, Technician, and Connector & Conductor.
Understanding the fundamentals of fluid power and the components used within a fluid power system. Ideal for new hires or anyone emerging into the fluid power industry.
This certification measures knowledge of fluid power terminology, basic principles, component functions, seal applications, fluid properties, and key safety practices across the supply chain.
An advanced certification in Hydraulic, Pneumatic, or Electronic Controls specialties. The Specialist certification is for professionals who design, analyze, troubleshoot, and specify fluid power systems and components.
